Case Studies East Coast Transloads Central Dispatch In July, the threat of a potential longshoremen's strike threatened key customer's supply chains. As the deadline approached and concerns of a prolonged disruption escalated, Worldwide Logistics proposed a solution to Midwest importers. The solution was to ship via the East Coast Ports and trans-load cargo in New York. A number of customers moved forward to hedge their options. Worldwide Logistics needed to trans-load 150x40' containers a week within a two day window in order to minimize transportation delays to time critical supply chains. Worldwide Logistics selected a New York based warehouseman with substantial cross-dock capabilities and the capacity to move the cargo. Information flow was critical. If the warehouseman had to chase documents there would be no way to achieve the container flow required by Worldwide Logistics' customers. Worldwide Logistics and Trade Tech implemented a collaborative solution. The warehouseman would work online within the Worldwide Logistics operation system. They would see cargo as soon as it sailed and be able to plan for it long before it reached the dock. In effect, information flowed directly from the origin to the warehouse with oversight through Worldwide Logistics' New York office. Worldwide Logistics' customers were able to view up to the minute information on their shipments and additionally were able to measure performance against committed transit times. Worldwide Logistics innovative and quick reaction prevented an interruption in the importers supply-chain. This saved the importer a tremendous sum of money that would otherwise have been spent on air freight, domestic sourcing, or worse, lost business. Central Dispatch A key Worldwide Logistics customer required over 100 deliveries per week at their facilities in Indiana. A separate third party provider managed each of the facilities and shipments were dispatched from the West Coast, East Coast and Chicago hubs. Competition for appointment times and the inability to stage drivers in Chicago was leading to delays of up to two or three days. All parties needed to have access to a common platform in order to leverage the process. Furthermore, visibility to inventory / SKU data was imperative to the warehouses and customer in prioritizing delivery appointments. Worldwide Logistics and Trade Tech co-developed a collaborative Central Dispatch Application via Worldwide Logistics' website. Warehousemen and truckers were assigned to specific shipments at the time of booking. This enabled the warehouses, truckers, Worldwide Logistics operations staff, and the customer to have visibility to the shipment well ahead of the dispatch time. Truckers
could pre-plan trucking capacity and the warehouses could set appointment
times online. Worldwide Logistics staff managed and expedited the process to insure conformity to the customer's instructions and expectations. Call a Worldwide Logistics professional today to see how Worldwide Logistics can leverage technology to simplify your supply chain information flow.
